2016 Tour Down Under - Stage 5

If you thought yesterday's stage from Norwood to Victor Harbor was a spectacle, then think again. Sure, it was a great stage, with Aussie Simon Gerrans backing up the previous day's win by outsprinting his competitors to the line. But in comparison, that stage was just a bit of fun.

Stage 5 ascends the mighty (well, as mighty as it can get in the Tour Down Under) Old Willunga Hill - TWICE! A few years back the race organisers decided they needed to make this queen stage harder, so they told the riders once they had reached the top, to go down and do it all again. That was a masterstroke, as we've now got one of the most exhilarating rides to watch. In 2015, Australian legend Richie Porte launched a solo attack in an effort to make up time on eventual winner - and now teammate - Rohan Dennis. He only just missed out. This year is no different, expect a flurry of attacks and a deafening roar as the 100k people crammed up on the hill get excited. This is the closest we get to the Tour de France at home, so get down there and be part of the crowd!
