2016 Tour Down Under - Stage 1

Stage 1 of the Tour Down Under kicks off today, and it's fair to say for the peloton, it couldn't come soon enough. The adrenalin would have been pumping following the 51km extreme-speed-amazing-spectacle People's Choice Classic on Sunday. But the riders had to back it up with a day off, as it does every year. Most of Monday's rest day would have included a relaxing coastal ride, a whole lot of coffee and a few massages for the riders, in order to prime themselves for the start of Stage 1.

The tour begins with a 130.8km route, with the starting gun being shot at 11am in Prospect, and the final lap bell ringing in Lyndoch around 40 minutes before the the expected finish time of 2:34pm (to be precise).

Lyndoch provides the best opportunity to catch the riders in action, with four laps of the area sure to entertain! The final three kilometres of the stage is pancake plat and has a bunch sprint written all over it.
